Tetum

Tetum is an Austronesian language spoken on the island of Timor. Along with Portuguese, it is the official language of East Timor. There are two types of Tetum: Tetum Terik (the more indigenous form) and Tetum Prasa or Tetum Dili (heavily influenced by Portuguese), also known as Tetun Prasa and Tetun Dili.

"Timor" is derived from “timur”, the Malay word for “east”. “East Timor” is therefore a tautological name; two parts which are synonymous (“East East”).
