Latin

Latin, once the lingua franca of Europe and the language of ancient Rome, still has relevance in fields such as law, medicine and science. While not a spoken language today, Latin remains critical for translating specialised texts.

Latin

Latin is a member of the Romance branch of the Indo-European language group. Originally, it was spoken in Latium, Italy. Vulgar Latin developed into Romance languages such as French, Spanish and Romanian.

Latin is still the official language of Vatican City and is used in documents in the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican even has a cash machine that lists instructions in Latin.

Despite being thought of as a dead language, Latin appears to be doing quite well – the Latin version of Wikipedia contains more than 100,000 articles.

At Geo Language Services, we offer accurate translations from Latin to ensure historical and scientific texts are preserved with clarity and precision.

Interesting fact

On Swiss coins and stamps, the Latin name Helvetia is used, as listing the country’s name in all four official languages would take up too much space.
