Romani
Romani belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language group and is closely related to Punjabi and Sinhala. It is not to be confused with Romanian, spoken in Romania, or Romansch, spoken in Switzerland. It is the only new Indo-Aryan language spoken exclusively outside of India and is an official language only in the Republic of Kosovo.
Romani is spoken by communities in many different places and there are 7 dialects that are divergent enough to be considered languages in their own right.
Interestingly, as well as taking loanwords from English and the country of settlement, the other main influence on Romani vocabulary is its close relative: Hindi.
