Kirghiz

Kyrgyz is a Turkic language spoken in Kyrgyzstan and is mutually intelligible with neighbouring Kazakh. It is one of the official languages of Kyrgyzstan along with Russian.

Kyrgyz was originally written in Turkic Runes, then the Arabic script, then the Roman script and since 1940 with the Cyrillic script… and there are now calls to change to the Latin script. China has about 150 000 Kyrgyz speakers, but for political reasons the script used there has not changed, so it’s still written with the Arabic script.
