Cantonese (Yue) Chinese
Cantonese comprises one of a number of language varieties (also referred to as dialects 方言) that make up the ‘Chinese’ or Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family.
With its tonal nature and rich cultural heritage, Cantonese requires a nuanced approach to translation.
As a written language its status is complex. Essentially the written language used for Cantonese is the same as everywhere else in China, but uses traditional characters. However, more and more Cantonese-specific words and structures have been introduced over the last 20 years by Cantonese speakers, making Cantonese an increasingly divergent written language of its own. It also tends to contain more English words than standard Chinese.
At Geo Language Services, we offer translations that maintain the essence of the language, ensuring your message is understood and appreciated by Cantonese speakers.
