Dating back to the 11th century, the language is central to the culture, politics and daily life of its speakers.

Myanmar language uses the Burmese alphabet, which is made of 33 consonants and 12 vowels (compared to 21 consonants and 5 vowels in English). There are no spaces between words, although a space made be added between clauses to make it easier to read.
